Independent Non-Executive Chairman

Ek Kia was appointed Independent Non-excutive Chairman in February 2017. He joined the Board of Directors of KrisEnergy in January 2013. He is a seasoned professional in the upstream oil and gas and petrochemicals sectors having spent a 33-year career from 1973 with the Shell group of companies in various capacities and countries worldwide.

 

In 1994, Ek Kia was appointed Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Exploration and Production and in 2000 took the role of Chairman of Shell Companies in North East Asia, based in Beijing. In 2003, he transferred to Singapore as Executive Vice President, Shell Chemicals Ventures and Developments, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

 

Since retiring in 2006, Ek Kia has served on various boards and committees. He currently serves as a Non-executive Director to SMRT Corporation Ltd., Keppel Corporation Ltd., PT Chandra Asli Petrochemical Tbk., Transocean Ltd., Keppel Offshore and Marine Ltd., and Dialog Systems (Asia) Pte Ltd. He is also the Chairman of Star Energy Group Holdings Pte Ltd.

 

He holds a First Class Honours BSc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University, UK, and is a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council UK, a member (MIMechE) of The Institute of Mechanical Engineers, UK, and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia.

 

In 2001, Ek Kia was awarded the honour of Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang by the State Government of Sarawak, Malaysia, which carries the title Datuk.
